Reincarnation, Karma, Past Lives

Is Karma fair?

Dear Diane,

I know we all have guardian angels and spirit guides who help us in times of trouble, but I am puzzled about something: Why would they help someone with a small, trivial problem and yet not help an equally deserving person with a HUGE, life-destroying problem?

I use as example the case of an 8-year-old girl who is kidnapped from her home and then caught up in a child pornography ring for 10 years. This has happened to thousands of children all over the world. Why do the angels not help them?

I realize karma and pre-birth choices play a significant role, but I don'tbelieve a spirit would deliberately choose such a dismal life just for the sake of learning and soul growth. Or perhaps SOME spirits want to experience it, or HAVE TO because THEY were child pornographers in a past life. But not ALL child porn victims have chosen it! So where are the angels and spirit guides?

Thanks,
Fred

Frankly, Fred, I don't know... but it's certainly a question worth pondering. We tend to think... if I were God, I'd do it this way or that way, but certainly not the way it is because that way makes no sense or isn't right or fair. But then this is the way it is and, if there is a God, then this is the way God intends it to be and God probably knows better than we why this is the way it must be.

We also have to ponder what are angels and spirit guides, what are their jobs, what can they and can't they do, why do they even exist? Little research has been done to try to figure it out so anything you or I come up with is mere speculation. I could say a person comes into this life as a victim or a perpetrator as a lesson in compassion for his or her soul... that suffering and struggling through a lifetime develops an inner strength the soul needs for its spiritual growth. That might be close to the truth but it doesn't help that child who was kidnapped and forced into porn feel any better about her life.

I encourage you continue asking questions and seeking new information... keeping in mind that the more questions you ask, the more questions you will have to ask.
Peace & Joy!

Trying to understand reincarnation

Maybe you can give me some insite into a question that I have always had about reincarnation. I haven't always believed in reincarnation but the more I explore and study things of a spiritual nature, I think I do believe in it. However, one thing bothers me about the idea of reincarnation. Although I understand the concept of not being able to "consciously" remember past lives in orderthat we can learn from and make choices in our current life, are we destined to forever experience lives after lives in perpetual amnesia? If I have died a thousand times already what is the purpose not to be allowed to remember the glorious afterlife I had for awhile and the other lives I have lived on earth? If I die tomorrow and go to some wonderful place for awhile and then reincarnate to a different life on this earth - according to the laws of reincarnation I would have forgotten what the afterlife was like and my life previoulsy lived. That sounds kind of dismal to me. Personally, I don't want to come back and start all over again. Please share your thoughts on this? Thank you.

--Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,
You're thinking too much like a human being! That's certainly a place to start but you need to rise higher, observe from a higher dimension and imagine the process at work to get the bigger picture. Lifetimes of 100 years on earth are like a series of coffee breaks to your soul where there is no time. Each earth life teaches our soul more about our greater spiritual life. Our soul aspect might exist for thousands or millions of years (earth time) and experience thousands of lifetimes on earth... all in preparation for what comes next as the soul moves toward higher spiritual growth. Remember we're talking eternity here so there's got to be a lot more to it than one earth life or even several reincarnations. We are much greater than our human imaginations can conceive and we have more to do with the creation and maintenance of the physical universe and spiritual dimensions than our human minds can grasp. Don't expect to understand fully. We can grasp a level below us and we can imagine the one above, but I'm taking you several levels higher where it becomes quite fuzzy. Just know that there is even more to it than you can conceive and that everything has it's purpose in the process. Where you are now is where you are supposed to be and the questions you're asking are the ones you're supposed to be asking, keep seeking.
Peace & Joy!

Dreams of Past Lives?

Have no idea how I came across your site, I was looking for something totally different, but in the end I'm glad it happened. I cannot call myself a person of much faith. Though somewhere inside me I feel that we must be the product of some higher power and that we are here for a purpose, I honestly cannot call myself a total believer in an afterlife. Anyway, I don't want to get into that now, because that is not the purpose of my mail. When I was five or six I fell from the table (don't ask me what business I had to be on a table, I was a kid after all) and hit my head. I remember that I saw my mother panicking, telling me to wake up, shaking me. And here I was, hovering somewhere above, looking at my body in a very "detached" way and telling my mother "Hey, I'm here! If you'd stop screaming maybe you could hear me..." Can't remember how long it lasted, all I know is that when I opened my eyes I was looking up, not down (the back of my head is a little flat, wonder if the fall had anything to do with it!...) I have a few questions... I have experienced the same exact dream a few times in my life and cannot really associate it with anything that was going on in my life at the time. In the dream I am with a group of people, they must be friends of mine but I do not recognize them and we come up an old, deserted house. I eventually start exploring the old place by myself and I start climbing ancient steps that lead me to an arched wooden door. I open the door and already know what I'm about to see. What I see is a VERY large room, looks like I'm in a castle. The room has a lot of candles and at the far end of the room I can see the firgure of an old monk stretched out on a bed or alter, I'm not sure. I can tell he's been there a long, long time. I do not feel scared but I always wake up. It's funny, for once I had this dream and as it was starting I remember I was telling myself "Oh, here goes that dream..." I first had this dream when I was in my early teens. I sometimes dream of what may be related to the same dream. For example, In one dream I'm walking up a hill when a man asks me about the house to my left, he wants to know if it's for sale. I know it is, but do not want to tell him. Together we go into the house, inside it looks like a monastery, and I KNOW where every little crooked corridor leads to. But my concern is with the man, I want him out of there, I turn and I'm in the middle of an open market in medieval times. I feel very much at ease now, the man is gone and I'm talking with one of the vendors who's busy working with leather (toling leather?). In another dream I'm escaping from someone who is looking for me. Again I am in a castle-like building, there are many secret passeways and I KNOW where they will take me, and I successfully get away from whoever is trying to get hold of me. When I was a kid I used to be drawn to the monastery (most people thought it odd behavior for a teen), There on the grounds watching the monks, going inside the chapel, I always felt so at peace... What is wrong with me? Why am I always drawn to medieval/monastic elements? A close friend of mine believes that I may have lived in those times; is it possible? Also, one day when I was in my early 20s I distinctly remember waking up with the certainty that I had just come back from someplace. It perturbed me and frankly I do not want to experience that again; where was I? Again, my friend tells me that possibly because of that fall I now have a "door" open to another dimension and that I should not fear it. I often have dreams and days or months later the dream really happens, I can tell what people are about to tell me, yet I'm plain scared of it all and often wish I had none of these. Do you have any advice for this 40+ critical care nurse? There is so much more that I could tell you, but I'd end up writing a short novel. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Dear Pat,

It's possible that you are having visions of past lives, it's possible the fall awakened something in you, you may be having out of body experiences, you may be lucid dreaming... it's also possible you have been a healer (in previous lifetimes) who has been headed in the wrong direction (medical model) in this lifetime and your guides (on the other side) are trying to get your attention. The thing is you need to find out so it doesn't all drive you nuts. I'd start keeping a journal, that's always helpful. Find a psychic/metaphysical bookstore and spend some time there roaming around, just looking at things there... certain things will draw your attention (books, stones, music, etc.)... you'll be doing a lot of reading... talk to people there, they can tell you some things or refer you to people who can point you to other resources... there are also a lot of books and resources on my web site. Don't jump into anything, take your time and the answers will begin to come to you. Learn meditation to strengthen your connection to your higher self and maintain inner peace, stay in the light, there's nothing to fear... it's an unfolding process that may involve the rest of your life. You're on your spiritual path... you just don't know it yet.

Peace & Joy!

Diane

Do I have a lot of karma?

Diana, I had a reading with a psychic who told me I had alot of karma, does this mean I've done many hateful and harmful things to people?

thank you, Vickie

Dear Vickie,

First read about Karma in the Appendix of my book, Through the Tunnel.

Second, don't think of Karma in terms of good/bad or reward/punishment, rather a learning experience. Become aware that every relationship and every experience we have offers us the opportunity to learn something. When we think of difficulties in those terms instead of getting caught up in the emotions, we see things from a higher perspective. We become the observer of our own actions as well as those of other people involved. Instead of drowning in a sea of emotions, we are looking at what this situation or person has come to teach us. The most difficult people are our greatest teachers, the hardest situations provide the greatest opportunity for spiritual growth.

We all have a lot of Karma. Think about past human history and place yourself at any time in the past, and imagine what your life might have been like, what role you played in your family, your commuity. No one had an easy road and we all likely did hateful and harmful things to others. We're continually working on purifying ourselves for our soul's sake, so as humans we're continually dealing with past Karma as well as what we accumulate in this life. You're no different from anyone else in that respect, but whether you are learning the lessons you came to learn and dissolving old Karma or continually repeating the same patterns over and over, living unconsciously, accumulating more Karma, is your choice in this lifetime.

Peace & Joy!

How can I learn about my past lives?

Hello,

I am very interested in learning about my past lives. Can you tell me any techniques I could use to regress myself?

Thank you for your time.

Peace and Love,

Melissa

Dear Melissa,

Really the best way to learn is to go to a hypnotherapist who does regression. After a couple of sessions, you will learn how to do it yourself. There are books and tapes that claim to teach you, but I still think the best way is to go to a professional so you can ask questions and be reassured.

Aside from that, you can start to gather your own information and perhaps develop a picture of some of your past lives. Make a list of things that interest you, people, places, things, customs, cultures, languages, religions, periods in history, clothing, dances, songs, architecture, furniture. Make a list of problem areas in your life, things that irritate or scare you, things that make you happy. List your fears. Any scars, birthmarks, deformities, illnesses. Especially list any repetitive patterns in your life. This is a process to jog your subconscious memory to reveal hidden information. Keep a journal, write down your dreams, things that come to you out of the blue, things you're drawn to for no apparent reason, synchronicities, other people who you immediately like or dislike, things you find out accidentally or someone tells you for no reason. Eventually you may begin to string threads together that point to something.

Learning how to meditate helps because once you clear your mind of everyday drudge, other information can flow into the conscious mind. If you are journaling and meditating, that's a good combination for learning about your past lives.

Peace & Joy!

Karmic Debts

Hi!

I have a question for you. If you lie alot, and do it out of habit. do you pay for it? When i was growing up i lied alot to my friends because i wanted them to like me and think i was a better person, i did it so much that it became a habit for me. I still do it sometimes, but i am really trying to quit. I don't know why but for the last few months i have been worried about being punished for it. I am really sorry that i lied, and i know it was wrong, but will i pay in this life or my next?

Thanks for your time,

Angela

Dear Angela,

I guess the good thing is that you realize you hurt others and want to make amends while you still have time. It is a lesson you came here to learn, it is likely you were a victim of lies in a previous life because you became aware of the harm it does both to others and yourself in this life. What's done is done, the question is what do you do now?

Forgiveness is extremely important. First, learn to forgive yourself, as you are already forgiven by God. If there is a way to apologize and ask forgiveness from others you have hurt by your lies, do so; in person or by letter. This is your lesson in humility. If not, you can write a general letter of apology to everyone you've hurt in the past, and then burn the letter. You may want to do some ritual or ceremony around this. And then you need to do something to make up for it to show you've changed your ways. Many people turn to some kind of volunteer work, helping others instead of hurting them.

This may also be thought of as a wake up call from your Soul to get onto your spiritual path and the way you resolve it will lead you to your true mission in this life.

Peace & Joy!

Diane

I don't want to reincarnate, life hurts too much

I have read so many books regarding NDE's and feel more comfortable that there are souls who reincarnate. I won't if I have a choice. Once I get off this earth plane and move to the higher realm I hope I can stay and not have to come back. Life hurts too much.

c.

Dear c.

The choice is really up to your Soul-- but what the choices are depends on your level of spiritual development when you make your transition. Think of each lifetime as preparation for graduation where graduation means you have learned everything your Soul sent you to learn in this lifetime and you don't have to come back unless you want to for higher spiritual reasons. One of the important lessons to be learned in a lifetime is how to overcome suffering and despair. You apparently have circumstances in your life which offer you the opportunity to transmute pain into joy through the realization that you are not this body, you are not these emotions, you are not this pain. You are a spiritual being having a human experience that is very challenging. When you recognize that you have no control but you are never alone, that these are just circumstances presenting a lesson to your human being, then you can get on with learning the lesson and rise above the pain. It's simply a switch in your attitude. This is not happening to you, it is happening to your human being-- and you will evolve spiritually to a higher consciousness plane.

Peace & Joy!

Diane

I have read your response at least 10 times. Thank you for taking the time to answer. I understand that this is a spirital lesson. I'm not sure what it is I am supposed to learn. I know it hurts sometimes til I think I can't bear it. I envy people who get to die. I don't say that to too many people. They would think I am crazy or suicidal and I am neither. You don't have to respond. Thanks for your compassion.

Ancient Mysteries Revealed

In response to the many questions and discussions I've had about Reincarnation--

(first click here if you have not read about Reincarnation from the Appendix of my book, Through the Tunnel)

In each incarnation, the human personality is given an opportunity to do anything it wants in that lifetime. The life beginning circumstances are determined by the Soul, which then manifests a human form to learn about whatever the Soul desires to study within that particular situation. The way to learn about something is to experience it and, through trial and error, reach a higher understanding, integrating new information with the old. Your Soul may be studying poverty/wealth, racial issues, peace/violence, giving/taking, health issues, intelligence/stupidity, religious issues, grief/joy, family values, health/illness, and the like, under various circumstances as different individuals. When the human form ceases to function, the essence of the personality with all it has learned returns to the Soul and contributes to its spiritual development.

The human personality is not given direct instructions nor its purpose for living nor the knowledge that it is really a spiritual being having a human experience because if it knew why it was living in certain circumstances, it wouldn't learn from them as significantly as it would with no preconceptions. Being born knowing we are spiritual beings would keep us from living within our physical limitations in the physical world. which is part of what we are here to learn. Instead we are given Free Will to find our own way through the challenges we encounter in our lifetimes. As Free Will is given by its creator Soul, there are no repercussions to the human being by the Soul for "bad" behavior. However, at the end of its Earth life, the personality consciousness goes through a purification process before returning its essence to the collective consciousness of its Soul. The life is "reviewed" and positive vibrations are absorbed by the Soul. Negative energy is refined during what is called the Bardo process. The process takes place in the human personality consciousness in the absence of Light. The personality has the opportunity to observe all the times it did not express love in situations and to recognize how expressing love changes the energy of the situation. We are the judge of our own lives, but not with punishment in mind. The personality consciousness, still with its Free Will, can choose to transform the negative energy into Light simply by acknowledging the Light. Negative energy the personality chooses to hold onto will be reincarnated with it, making that next lifetime more complicated. This is the Karma we are born with and have the ability to dissolve, as well as to accumulate more with that Free Will of ours.

The Soul's purpose involves a process of development with the goal of returning Soul-Actualized to its creator Spirit-Being. Just as a Soul projects its human form into the physical world to experience it. Spirit projects Soul into a more dense environment for the experience. Spiritual beings project a multitude of Souls to explore all the inner dimensions of All That Is, the Ultimate Creator. Soul beings manifest into many biological beings capable of exploring and experiencing the densest levels of Totality. We are all Scientists!

This process of involution and evolution is called the Cycle of Birth, Death and Rebirth or Reincarnation and, in between Birth and Death, and Death and Rebirth, we exist as human beings and Souls. Both are "living" experiences; one biological, one etheric, but they are not separate, they exist simultaneously. One entity (energy field) constantly transforming itself to enhance the Whole, which follows the current theories in particle physics. As it is above, so it is below.

This is not a contest to see who gets there first, but a Soul's goal for its human beings involves learning about living in the physical environment and interacting with other physical life forms and environments. Learning takes place at many levels. On the personal level, we develop our interests, talents, abilities, our character and personality through experiences in many different incarnations. On other levels, we learn how the world works through our research and studies. We learn to manage our social, political, and economic systems. We strive to understand each other, ourselves and our environment. The collective consciousness of the Soul is enhanced by the learning from each physical experience. It is an evolving, ecological process-- it is not a closed loop, even though no apparent progress may be seen among individual lifetimes. The Soul's goal for itself is to know itself fully by experiencing life from every perspective at every level of existence, the physical level being only one part of the Whole. At some point the Soul learns enough to be able to move in and out of every level of existence at will, including manifest a physical form without going through the birth and death process, appearing only for a short time, for a specific purpose.

As the human being, once we become aware that we can, we can choose at any time to accelerate that process for our Soul by enhancing our ability to learn from the mistakes we make in dealing with the challenges or lessons that are presented to us during our lifetime. A person who expresses love in their family, in their work, in all their doings, is bringing more love-energy back to its Creator Soul than one who rapes and pillages with no concern for self or others. Most people, with some degree of life experience and introspection, notice certain patterns in their lives. They always meet the same kind of man/woman and it always turns out the same. The same thing happens to them in job after job. Whatever line they get in, it's the slowest... time after time after time. Over and over and over. Instead of feeling hopeless, helpless and depressed, change the pattern. Karma is not Fate, it is energy to be transformed! It is a block that can be dissolved and redirected in a positive way. Do something different. Get out of denial and take a good look at your own behavior instead of blaming others for your problems. You are the only person you can't see and you are looking at yourself in the mirror of other people. See how you are creating your own reality. Usually, with hindsight we can figure it out, but that means we probably kept repeating it longer than we had to. When you learn from your mistakes the first or second time, there is no need to continue to create the lesson. The more foresight you develop in a lifetime, the more knowledge you return to your Soul about existence in the physical dimension; the fewer incarnations you will have to go through to become one with your Divine Nature.

Continuing to wallow in the negative emotions of our life circumstances, straying in denial, not taking responsibility, not living ethically and with integrity, and remaining attached to our physical sensations and desires is not a punishment nor the result of a punishment nor is it one's destiny. It may be the result of poor choices, but it is all part of our learning process. From the Soul perspective all experience is valuable information and it is the Soul's function to purify the consciousness according to its own standards when it emerges following physical death since only the positive, love energy is absorbed by the Soul consciousness. You could think of yourself as carrying two buckets into the afterlife. One contains love, happiness, joy, compassion, sharing, integrity and gratitude; the other, hate, anger, bitterness, resentment, greed, violence, and vengefulness. If the latter bucket is full and the former, empty, not much of "you" is going to live on. Only love returns to the Soul, the rest is purged from consciousness. That is the perfecting process of the Soul.

What good is an understanding of the process of Reincarnation to us? None, really, if we don't use it. Knowledge left sitting on a shelf doesn't do anyone any good. Some people are afraid they may find out they did something terrible or were an awful person in some past-life. Others only want to know if they were someone famous or brilliant or notorius. When you consider that we may have lived many hundreds or thousands of lifetimes, chances are, we have been every kind of person at one time or another. There are many people who have lived before whose names do not appear in written history nor oral legend, both simple people with uneventful lives and important people who worked behind the scenes at important events, and many whose ideas were stolen and others took credit for. Even a short lifetime is valuable experience to the Soul. Keeping in mind that the Soul's goal is to express Christ-Consciousness, all lifetimes are important to develop empathy and compassion and love for all life. The Soul has knowledge of all its past lives and that memory is available to our Sub-Conscious Mind, most readily accessible under hypnosis.

Using the techniques for past life regression, we can access information that is relative to understanding what this life is all about without emotions getting in the way. We become the observer of our lives, not the judge, and we see a picture of a greater whole emerge. We see our births and our deaths as part of a greater process. It is like finding pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, putting them together in a way that makes sense, and seeing the whole image. By developing this broader perspective, everything falls into place and we can begin to see the meaning of our lives. By further developing our ability to see things from a higher perspective, we can look at our present lives more objectively and see the waste of immersing ourselves in unnecessary dramas. By bringing love and forgiveness into situations, we transmute the energy force, which helps us deal with our challenges and lessons more objectively, as well as compassionately. When we realize our own survival is not our reason for being, compassion is born in us and we develop a greater respect for all life. This release from fear of death allows our creativity to expand and frees us to enjoy this life we have now for as long as we have it. And to let go of it peacefully when it is time to go home.

Most people doing past-life regression, report very common, ordinary lives, similar to most of ours today. Their descriptions are usually of everyday lives, just people struggling along with life at different periods in history. As more and more lives surface, threads begin to become apparent that run through all or many lifetimes. They may reveal particular character traits they are studying from different perspectives, certain physical abilities or disabilities they are exploring, specific talents or creative abilities they are developing. Certain themes become apparent: the study of religion, politics, economics, science, art, sexuality, astronomy, business, law. All of these factors are important to understanding this life and making the most of it. It is not a parlor trick any more than it is the work of the devil. The fact that most of us are not born knowing past-life information doesn't mean it is something we are forbidden to know. We may know it when we are ready to know it. It doesn't give us any special power, it is only relevant to those who are ready to move beyond what they already know and discover the freedom of being who they really are.

If we came here to share love and to learn, why did Hitler, Pol Pot, Daumer, Saddam Hussein, Martin Bryant and other monsters come here?

None of us come here consciously knowing why we're here. We do come in with the Free Will to do anything we darn well please! And the truth is that nothing really matters-- because we can come back and do it again and again and again! Such is God's infinite patience with souls evoluting and involuting on their path back to their Source. Each human lifetime is an opportunity to express a minute of God's unconditional love for all that exists in the physical dimension. The catch is that the physical world is so attractive and being in a physical body is so fascinating, that we lose sight of our spiritual goal and pursue money, power, control, material things. The pull of the physical world is very strong. Many people fight the "battle of good and evil" in their minds, many go insane over it. Some become murders and cannibals. What made them lose the battle to the dark side? I believe it has to do with Karma.

If a person lived a lifetime, or more likely many lifetimes, in a position of complete powerlessness and then came into a lifetime where he had the opportunity to express his rage by slaughtering anyone he wanted, or millions of people he didn't like, his choice would be to grab it... or rise above it by instead expressing unconditional love. In the cases of the men you mentioned, obviously they all chose the former.

And how about the people they murdered, you ask? Am I to guess their karma too? I believe our soul decides the reasons for incarnating at a particular time in history to particular parents in a certain environment, but not the details of our lives (that is our free will). It involves karmic lessons our soul is interested in learning about expressing love. If karma is an opposite reaction, being murdered relates to having murdered someone, others, in past lives. Or it could be a sacrifice to teach a greater love to others. These are things our soul in a sense keeps from us, the information is buried deep in our subconscious minds (can you imagine being born knowing that you will eventually be murdered so your soul can understand how it feels?). On the soul level these things make sense, but at the human level they make no sense at all. Unless you think about what could happen to these murderers in their next life time to make up for their past karma!

If reincarnation is true why do we choose to keep coming back to this planet where violence, torture and genocide have been practiced through the ages and are still a way of life in many parts of the planet?

I think I pretty much answered this in the last question. I don't think there has been peace between human beings since the first one met the second one! Some people think someday peace will reign all over the world and earth will be like heaven. I don't think so. I think this is school and we're in and out, and in and out of it, everything physical is temporary. The whole package could be gone in an instant-- poof! But there are other planets. There's no reason I can think of why a soul has to incarnate on this planet and this planet alone. But I'm getting off track... what's eternal is the spiritual dimensions and in my Father's house there are many mansions, many levels to explore and learn about. The physical world is just one, but it is an important one. It is the only time we can physically touch each other, go shopping, do lunch, have sex! And each time we have a choice, whether to give in to the temptations of the physical world or to express God's love in everything we do. This isn't an either/or situation. Religions and Governments have tried to define right and wrong, but there are still gray areas. Inevitably we create new karma, some never resolve even what they came in with, and so we have to do it again and again until we finally figure it out. God has only one law-- love unconditionally. Once the human being gets that, the soul no longer needs to incarnate, but may do so in service to others-- or not!
