Reincarnation

I've already written much about reincarnation on this site so I suggest you read or re-read that first. This section below kind of wraps it up.

About Past Life Regression

And there are plenty of links and books for more information.

When it comes to belief in reincarnation, two-thirds of the world's population believes in it, in one way or another. It's mainly the Bible that keeps most of the nonbelievers from even considering it because it is said in the Bible that a man comes into this life one time and dies.

The way I see it, that's true, but who we are is not the man. From a Soul perspective, the man is only one aspect of the whole being and it's not the man that reincarnates. Each incarnation is the same Soul as a different human being but they are all connected. Charlie Jones and Nancy Smith only get one shot, but in the next incarnation it will be neither Charlie nor Nancy who is reborn, but perhaps Kim Lee and Antonio Gomez, working on karma left over from Charlie's and Nancy's days on Earth.

Each personality is a fragment of the whole being, chosen by the Soul, pre-birth, to incarnate with certain traits and characteristics into a particular environment, social context, family, etc., to, in a sense, go on a mission for the Soul.

Like King Arthur sending his brave knights out into the unknown to search for the Holy Grail, Human Beings are sent forth from their Creator to venture into the unknown, experience life to the fullest, enjoy caring relationships with others, and return home with the Grail. Given with the Free Will to do anything we want with our lives while we are here, is the crucible that we do everything with love, which involves dissolving karma and not creating any new karma. The quest for the Holy Grail is finding that God is within us. It's that we don't know we are here to look for the Grail that leads to despair.

Human life isn't meant to be a punishment. It's a great joy for our Soul to be able to come here and experience this beautiful planet, and connect with other Souls through our human senses. Our Soul wants us to have a good time, to do everything we love to do. Instead of sharing the joy of being human, many people resent the fact that they are here where there is so much suffering. But it's our attachment to the physical, material world that brings suffering and makes it seem a punishment.

Human beings have to figure out how to survive in the physical environment they find themselves. And not just for themselves and their families, but the community, the nation, the world. How do we feed, shelter and clothe the multitudes? That's what makes it seem like we're in hell. We think we're on our own in this survival game, but we're not. That's what religions, Goddess bless them, have been trying to teach. They say that God is with us, or Jesus, or Buddha, or Mohammed, or Allah. Yes, that's true, believing any of them are with you is true, but it is actually your own Soul who is with you always, call it whatever name you will. Our Soul is our personal, intimate relationship with God. God manifests as the physical world, it's up to us, with the guidance from our Soul, to make it work for us by learning to work with it— in harmony. Once we realize this, we also realize that we truly are Timeless Spiritual Beings living in a physical environment in a physical body which is restricted by Time. We are then able to let go of our attachments to physical things because we realize they are only temporary and only love is eternal.

Once we turn to that Higher Power, we are reconnected with our Source of Being and life takes on a whole new meaning. Surviving in the physical world, much less the political climate, is challenging and that's what life is about-- figuring things out, problem solving, meeting challenges with our ingenuity and creativity, that's what we're here to learn at Earth University. Fighting over bits of land and relics from the past is nonsensical when there is so much to be done to insure the continued survival of the Human Race in the universe. That's why we're here. The rest is just stuff we make up because we are ignorant about who we really are and our old rigid beliefs keep us in the dark.

For those concerned with losing their sense of self and meeting their loved ones on the other side, existence in the Soul dimension, where the "you" you are now will go following the death of your body, is the heavenly setting and eternal life that many people, who believe in life after death, envision. We continue to be individualized fragments of an evolving Soul with the Free Will to continue to pursue our own interests and relationships, but there is no longer a struggle for survival in a hostile environment. Here we manifest our thoughts, what we need appears immediately (no having to build it ourselves, no money to exchange, no Fed-Ex delivery to wait for, no credit to apply for), and our greatest task is learning to control the power of our thoughts. Learning is one thing that never stops no matter how evolved we become, it just takes a different form. Our lives on the other side will reflect our thoughts perfectly, including the ones we bring with us from this life, so mind your thoughts. In this life, we create our future by the thoughts we have today. On the other side, we are surrounded by our immediate thoughts. (See Thought-Forms)

The judgment that many religions discuss, whether it's Judgment Day for Humanity or an individual's judgment to determine where he or she goes next is actually something that occurs in consciousness. There is no trial, no judge, no list of sins to account for, no need to defend ourselves, no jury to determine our fate, although it may appear that way if you die believing it to be so. What takes place during transition from the physical back to the etheric dimension is a life review that goes on within the self, to which everything is already known. We know exactly what we did and didn't do, whether it was right or wrong, and what our intentions were— no excuses, no blaming someone else, no place to hide. (See Bardo) Whether we spent our life being the best or the worst we could be, becomes a matter of energy transforming. Any negativity acquired in a lifetime (karma), affects the overall system and is dealt with during our transition from one form to another, from one level of consciousness to another. We continue working through our karma on the other side. Our Soul works out deeper karma in other human lifetimes as necessary learning experiences.

There is some karma that is so strong as to be ascribed to be the work of the devil or so exceedingly evil that it takes more than one, more than several human lifetimes, maybe thousands, to purge it from the system. This is the work of the Soul, creating human beings who will work through the dichotomy of being both Human and Divine. In order to know God, we must know Evil. The physical dimension is one of duality, we must learn both sides of everything to achieve balance.

During transition, in consciousness, it may be experienced as horrible, frightening images that pursue us relentlessly, the burning fires of hell, falling into the abyss, as well as the opportunity to turn towards the light. It might seem to us punishment for our sins and threat of punishment is a useful deterrent which is why religions have used it, but it is just part of the natural process-- like the raging fire that destroys the forest and brings it new life, it purifies our consciousness. It's all the same concept, it just depends on how you look at it.

Reincarnation is a broader concept than we generally think and it's not just wishful thinking that we have more than one lifetime to get it right. When you read the discussion on Infinity, then think deeper about what Eternity really means and how it relates to a Soul being able to incarnate thousands of times to enhance its growth. For all intents and purposes, we are involved in an endless, continuous, unfolding process. A single human lifetime, even of 100 years, is but a blink of an eye in the eternal life of our Spirit.

The final level of consciousness, Clear Light, is made manifest at the time of death. This is the strongest and subtlest. Unused, it serves as the basis for revolving the round of birth, old age, sickness and death.

The Dalai Lama, 1980

Karma

Refer to the description of Karma in the Appendix of Through the Tunnel

Karma is a concept used to explain certain things about our lives, but it is more than reaping what we sow. When we plant wheat seeds, we don't just get wheat. We get a means to feed a hungry population. We get livelihoods, jobs, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, all by planting a seed. And so is there much more to karma.

Firstly, there are different kinds of karma. There is the karma our Soul decides we will come in with from past lives, there is the karma we accumulate while we're here, and there is group karma that goes with the family, friends, community, religion, culture, race, nation, profession, politics, etc., which our Soul decided to deal with in our lifetime. Some karma is ripe, ready, to be picked from the tree, to be resolved— it is in our face. Other karma we have carried over from many lifetimes and may stay with us through many more if we persist in denying it.

Karma represents the sum total of the causes we set in motion in past lives and determines the conditions of the present. It is not destiny however, because through the use of our Free Will, new causes are constantly being introduced. The purposes of our experiences on earth are to learn more lessons about giving and receiving love, to become spiritual beings enjoying our human experiences, to be living examples of Gods' love, and to attain union with God.

When we achieve these goals, we achieve our Soul's purpose for reincarnating and free it from the Cycle of Rebirth to move on to higher learning. When we live in opposition to these, we create more karma causing our Soul to need to reincarnate again and again. Karma and reincarnation are inseparable from each other. Reincarnation is the law of return, of evolution in action, and karma is the cause of that return. Karma is the law of adjustment, it neither rewards nor punishes, but adjusts the scales to bring balance.

Karma and reincarnation fit scientific principles concerning energy. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed. For every action there is an equal reaction. All matter is subject to decay. Order arises out of chaos. From the Micro to the Marco, as it is above, so it is below.

Karma is also our teacher of self-responsibility. Karma doesn't make us do something wrong. If we do something wrong, say break the law, and get punished, we are responsible for the act by using our Free Will to choose to disregard the law. We've created karma by our own actions. Only by taking responsibility and making amends, doing forgiveness work, can we begin to dissolve the karma. We have the ability to reweave the threads of the tapestry we wove in past lives and this life through the power of our Free Will, by choosing the path of love. We do have control over our lives and are not at the mercy of karma.

If we think because we have achieved worldly success that we have no responsibility for those who have little, we mistakenly believe our fortune and their misfortunes are due to karma created in past lives. We are simply learning lessons about having an abundance of wealth and power, not reaping rewards for being good in the past. When we abuse wealth and power, we create karma. They are learning lessons about doing without and depending on others, not being punished for past bad deeds. They too have the choice of creating or dissolving karma by their Free Will. In order to achieve balance, our Soul needs to experience both sides of the coin. This is why everyone else is a mirror for seeing ourselves rather than a potential adversary. We learn from each other because we are each other. If not in this life, we have been each other in past lives-- from murderer to saint.

We can learn to work with karma for our personal and spiritual growth. When bad things happen, when relationships blow up, when we are in the most pain, these are lessons to be learned, not punishments nor whims of an angry God. When we can look at these events and our circumstances as lessons to be learned, and actually learn from them instead of staying stuck in the emotions or in denial, we are dissolving karma. When we react to them with anger, jealousy, rage, we are creating karma.

Past life regression work is helpful if you want to learn how to work with karmic energy. If you read June Bletzer's book, Self-Disclosure of a SOUL Memory, you'll see how patterns emerge when many lifetimes are reviewed. You're able to see more of the whole, which is greater than the sum of any of its parts. You can see what lessons your Soul has been learning and that there is no correlation to reward or punishment, except for the frustration of having to repeat the same lesson again and again in so many lifetimes because we just aren't getting it. The goal is to become immediately aware of karmic situations when they come up, to see the same lesson coming at us and realize we got it the last time and no longer need to repeat it. We no longer live in the emotional dramas we used to call our lives. We become more balanced and peaceful, creative rather than destructive.

If you choose to work with your karma, here are some suggestions:
  1. Keep a journal.
  2. Make a list of all the negative things going on in your life.
  3. Make a list of all the positive things going on in your life.
  4. Devote a page to each and write down everything that comes to you about each.

Over time, a pattern should emerge that gives you some idea about what it is your Soul wants you to learn. You many find that some issues are related to other issues, the same lesson is involved, and now you can combine them and get a clearer picture of what it is you are working on in this life. And this life is the important life.

  5. As you get the lessons, start a new list and define them. It helps to know you're making progress.
  6. Relate these to any past life work you are doing, especially things that happen over and over.
